Man held with Rs 45 lakh in Noida engaged in hawala transactions: Cops | Delhi News

Gautam Buddha Nagar police on Thursday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly carrying out illegal hawala business. Officers also seized Rs 45 lakh and five fake Aadhaar cards from him.

The accused has been identified as Jagjiwan alias Jaggu, a resident of Kankarkheda in Meerut. Officials at Sector 113 police station caught Jagjiwan on an e-rickshaw in Sector 112 with Rs 45 lakh late on Tuesday night. However, he could not provide any satisfactory explanation to the police about the cash. Following this, officials of the Income Tax Department in Gautam Buddha Nagar interrogated him thoroughly and found he was involved in the hawala business, the police said.

“He is part of a gang that launders money. Five Aadhaar cards have been recovered from the accused, using which he used to convert black money into white. Search is on for the other accused and further legal action is being taken,” said Shakti Mohan Awasthy, ADCP, Noida.

Another official said Jagjiwan was engaged in money laundering along with accomplices Jitendra, Rahul and one unknown person. “Jaggu, while being caught with a bag full of money on July 25, had quietly thrown his purse away. After thorough questioning, a black-coloured purse was recovered on July 26 from the dense grass on the roadside in Sector 112, Noida, in which 5 fake Aadhaar cards with photographs of the accused were recovered,” said the official.

A case has been registered at Sector 113 police station under Indian Penal Code sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (all three related to forgery) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
