Oppenheimer box office collection day 8: Christopher Nolan film maintains strong hold against Karan Johar’s film, earns over Rs 77 crore | Hollywood News
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been in the cinemas for a week and the audience is still flocking to the theatres to catch the movie. Unlike many recent Bollywood films, Oppenheimer’s collections are still quite respectable even though it has started its second week. Oppenheimer collected Rs 4.50 crore on its eighth day as per early estimates at the Indian box office, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings the film’s total collections to Rs 77.70 crore in India. The film overall had 28.68 percent occupancy in all languages.
Oppenheimer has held a strong grasp at the box office from its opening day. The movie opened with Rs 14.5 crore on the opening day of July 21 and its numbers over the first weekend saw a sharp increase. The film’s first-week collection stood at Rs 73.27 crore, which included Rs 64.24 crore in English and Rs 9.03 crore in Hindi.
Now, with Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani releasing in the theatres, Oppenheimer will face some tough competition. The Karan Johar film, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, made Rs 11.5 crore on its opening day.
Oppenheimer released against Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, with Tom Cruise starrer Mission Impossible 7 already running successfully in the theatres. But in India, the Cillian Murphy starrer stayed ahead in the race from the beginning. However, globally, Margot Robbie’s film is leading the race. According to Box Office Mojo, until its seventh day, Barbie had collected over $549 million worldwide, whereas Oppenheimer made $239 million.
Oppenheimer was also in controversy for a scene featuring Bhagavad Gita. As previously reported, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur was upset with the Central Board of Film Certification for clearing the scene, even though it was trimmed.
