Former Karnataka governor and veteran BJP leader Vajubhai Vala and former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani were called upon to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a public organised in Rajkot as part of the inauguration of Rajkot International Airport on Thursday.
In his address to the meeting, the Prime Minister also talked about how his journey in electoral politics began in Rajkot as he contested his maiden election around two decades ago from Rajkot. Incidentally, Vala, who was an MLA from the Rajkot-II Assembly seat (now known as Rajkot West) had resigned to vacate the seat for Modi to contest the bypoll for his Gujarat Assembly debut. This was after Modi replaced Keshubhai Patel as the chief minister of Gujarat.
Less than two hours after assuming charge as the Registrar of Saurashtra University, Harish Ruparelia was given the task of delivering a welcome speech at a ceremony organised to inaugurate Veer Savarkar Chair in SU on Friday.
Ruparelia, who was serving as municipal secretary in Rajkot Municipal Corporation before being picked as the SU Registrar, delivered a rather short speech. Later, apparently observing that the audience in the Senate Hall was uncomfortable due to malfunctioning air conditioners, he was observed gesturing the staff to open the windows of the hall.
