In his complaint, Kamal had alleged that Cheema had “unnecessarily dragged” his name in the alleged land acquisition scam of highway number 105-B. Kamal had further alleged that Cheema “without having any proofs” had given a statement in the media that two installments of Rs 350 crore and 360 crore each were transferred in his (Kamal’s) bank account.

However, Kamal has now withdrawn the case and the court has accepted his plea. In his fresh application in the court he has submitted that he “does not seem fit to pursue the case” after being “satisfied with Cheema’s explanations” who said that his remarks “were never specifically targeted at him (Kamal).” Accepting Kamal’s plea, the court of chief judicial magistrate Shilpi Gupta ordered that Cheema has been discharged from the case.

The latest court order read: “File taken up today on an application for disposing of the present complaint in view of the supportive application of the complainant…Complainant suffered a statement that on the previous date of hearing i.e. 14.07.2023, counsel for Harpal Cheema had categorically stressed on this point by confronting him with some…news items of said press conference to the effect that Cheema had never categorically and specifically mentioned his name..Cheema had referred to some politicians of Moga area with regard to the alleged scam regarding NH 105-B. He further stated that Cheema had referred to the involvement of some politicians…Cheema had never named him in his said press conference by naming him particularly. He further stated that keeping in view the above said contentions and by treating them bona fide.., he does not deem fit to pursue the present complaint further after being satisfied with the explanations of Cheema..He further stated that present complaint may kindly be dismissed as withdrawn…”
