The trailer of The Freelancer, starring Mohit Rana and Anupam Kher, has been released. The series is directed by Bhav Dhulia, with Neeraj Pandey, known for his acclaimed works like A Wednesday and Baby, serving as the show runner. The Freelancer revolves around the story of a young girl who finds herself falsely ensnared in Syria due to her husband’s deceit.
The trailer opens with a tense scene, where a young girl is seen sprinting through narrow alleyways, desperately trying to save her life. She had been misled by her husband’s promise of a honeymoon, only to be transported to Syria against her will. Following her disappearance, her father, Inayat Khan (played by Sushant Singh), is shot in a gunfire in the middle of the road. Before taking his last breath, a scene shows Inayat asking Avinash Kamath (played by Mohit Raina) to ensure the safety of his daughter. Following Inayat’s death, Avinash, a mercenary, takes it upon himself to rescue the young girl and bring her back home. Anupam Kher is seen in the role of a mentor to Avinash.
Talking about his role in The Freelancer, Mohit Raina shared, “The Freelancer is a story that touched my heart in several ways. Playing Avinash Kamath was challenging yet creatively satisfying. Despite fighting his interpersonal battles on a daily basis, Avinash embarks upon a mission like never before, as he sets foot to rescue Aliya.”
The series is adapted from Shirish Thorat’s novel A Ticket to Syria. Joining the stellar cast are John Kokken, Gauri Balaji, Navneet Malik, Manjiri Faddnis, and Sarah Jane Dias. It will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar from September 1.
