Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Veraval in Gir Somnath, K V Bati, told mediapersons that the consignment of wheat, rice, gram and soybean found in the factory is prima facie ration diverted from the PDS by a private contractor who had been assigned the work of transporting such consignments from government godowns to fair price shops (FPS) in the district.

He added that of the 693 bags found in the factory, 175 had bag closing stitches with government stamps. They included 80 bags of wheat, 77 of rice and 18 of gram. These bags cumulatively contained 8,750 kg of ration worth Rs 2.78 lakh. He further said that another 518 bags, containing 25,900 kg of ration worth Rs 6.24 lakh, had manual closing stitches.

Bati said three gate passes issued in the name of Mukesh Dhiru Mori, who has the contract of transporting PDS ration from government godowns to FPSes, were also seized. “We have seized 693 bags of ration from the godown, a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck from the godown. We have recorded the statement of Mori and a probe is going on,” he added.
