Lovely Professional University (LPU) and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his family, where the former stressed on the importance of promoting research in higher education.
During the meeting, Mittal reminded the Prime Minister of his visit to LPU during the Indian Science
Congress in 2019, where he addressed the scientific community and coined the ‘Jai Anusandhan’ slogan. He shared his views on the importance of innovation in higher education and strengthening the industry-academia collaboration to drive economic growth and development.
Mittal stated, “I also mentioned how LPU has been contributing to the national skill development mission by imparting industry-relevant education and training to its students.” He said that he further expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his support to the education sector and his appreciation for the government’s New Education Policy (NEP) initiative.
Mittal informed the Prime Minister that he and LPU would play any role that the government feels is appropriate for the execution of NEP policy. Mittal and his wife Rashmi Mittal presented a bouquet and a hand-woven phulkari shawl to the PM, while his daughter and son-in-law Srishti and Sreshtha Khetan presented a frame that had a picture of PM Modi alongside his late mother.
Mittal along with his son Pratham Mittal presented a portrait of PM Modi, which was painted by one of the LPU students.
The Prime Minister also signed a book by Murli Dharan Khetan, grandfather of Sreshta Khetan. “PM Modi spent a considerable amount of time with our family, discussing various topics related to education and development. He appreciated my ideas and said that education reforms are very close to his heart. He acknowledged the importance of science and technology in driving progress and development and spoke about how the ‘Jai Anusandhan’ slogan was added to the ‘Jai Kisan’, ‘Jai Jawan’, and ‘Jai Vigyan’ slogans to emphasise the importance of science and technology in various sectors, including agriculture, defence and healthcare,” said Mittal.
