Like any 90s kid who has grown up watching Bollywood films, actor Tahir Raj Bhasin is also a fan of Shah Rukh Khan. The actor recently shared buying the ‘Cool’ chain that Shah Rukh wore in his 1998 hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He also opened up about how his perception of certain things, which was formed after watching Karan Johar movies, changed after he went abroad for higher studies.
Bhasin, who made a mark with his performance in 83 and Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein, recently interacted with Varun Duggi for his podcast Take aPause. During the conversation, he was asked about the ‘Cool’ chain that he owned and Bhasin shared how he felt strongly about it during his growing-up years.
He replied, “I wore it to school, at the basketball court. Anyone who was a 90s kid and was not heavily inspired/influenced by SRK..I am a Delhi kid and I went to Delhi University as he did. I feel you didn’t have a childhood in India if it wasn’t a part of your growing up. I wore it in Chandigarh and got asked where I bought it from.”
Before building a career in movies, Tahir Raj Bhasin studied in Australia and did a part-time job at a coffee shop. “When I was in Australia, Melbourne, you get a student visa and you also get a work permit. Since I grew up on my dose of Bollywood, the thing to do when you go abroad is work in a cafe because that’s what every Karan Johar movie has taught you. But turns out, it’s more romantic in the movies than it is when you actually get there,” Bhasin shared.
He added, “It’s way more romantic in the movies as is everything. It teaches you a whole lot of respect for those who are working in hospitality.”
The actor also talked about the times when he thought he would move to Mumbai and become a Yash Raj Films or a Dharma Productions hero but soon realised that in Mumbai, one needs at least a month to just find a home only. So, he learnt that “Mumbai has a way of testing and teaching you.”
Tahir Raj Bhasin had a good 2022 as he delivered applause-worthy performances in Ranjish Hi Sahi, Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein, and Loop Lapeta. He is expected to start the shoot of the second season of Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein towards the end of this year.
