The latest PS5 system update is now available

The latest PlayStation 5 system software update is available for download now.

Version 23.01-07.61.00 will be available the next time users turn on their consoles.

It’s another minor update, with a single patch note: “This system software update improves system performance.”

The last firmware update for the PS5 was version 23.01-07.60.00, which was released last month. It too was minor, however.

The next major PS5 firmware update is currently in beta and being tested by invited users in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany and France.

When it rolls out to everyone, this firmware will add support for Dolby Atmos HDMI devices like soundbars, TVs or home theatre systems. This will enable the console to pass the PS5’s 3D Audio feature to Atmos devices by rendering the 3D Audio channels (including overhead ones) to Atmos speakers.

It will also include new accessibility features, including the ability to assign a second controller as an ‘assist controller’ to a single account, as well as the ability to turn on haptic feedback while navigating the PS5 system menu.

The console’s last major update was rolled out in early March. In addition to Discord voice chat, it added the ability to start or request a Share Screen session with a friend directly from their profile. It also introduced Variable Refresh Rate support for displays that support 1440p resolution.

Other new features included the ability to transfer data between PS5s, an option to upload game captures to the PlayStation App, using voice commands to capture video clips, and the ability to sort and filter games when adding them to a gamelist.
