A Lakhimpur Kheri court Friday convicted four persons for the gangrape-murder of two teen Dalit sisters, whose bodies were found hanging from a tree outside their village in the district last year, and fixed August 14 as the date for the pronouncement for judgment. However, the trial of the other two accused, both minors, is still pending.

The four convicts in their 20s have been lodged in jail since their arrest in 2022 and police brought them to the court Friday.

“After examining 15 witnesses of prosecution and two of the defence, the court held all four accused guilty and fixed August 14 for the pronouncement for judgment,” Special Prosecutor Brijesh Kumar Pandey said.
