Drugs, cell phones recovered in Model Burail Jail; four undertrials face charges | Chandigarh News
Four undertrial inmates have been charged after drugs and three cell phones were allegedly recovered in Model Burail Jail.
The accused were identified as Sulkhan Singh, Monu, Shiva Thakur, and Jaswinder Singh. Sources said that three drug tablets and the same number of cell phones were seized during a special checking conducted followed by a secret input. Additional Jail Superintendent Amandeep Singh had conducted the search.
Sources said Sulkhan confessed to the fact of bringing the drugs to the prison and hiding them in his rectum. Sulkhan had gone to attend a court hearing at District Court in Sector 43 on Thursday, where his known people managed to hand over the drugs to him, they further said.
The drug tablets were recovered when he was frisked as he was brought back to the Model Burail Jail on Thursday evening.

“During the interrogation, Sulkhan revealed the names of three other inmates who were in the possession of three small sized China-made cell phones. The three were lodged in Barrack Number 8. One cell phone was found hidden in a small dig inside the barrack. Two cell phones were found in the pockets of the inmates’ wet clothes, which were hanged on a rope to dry,” a jail officer said.
Later, jail administration lodged an FIR against the four inmates under The Prisons Act, 2011 and Section 22 of NDPS Act at Sector 49 police station.
Also, keeping in view the upcoming Independence Day, jail authority along with the Chandigarh Police conducted a mock drill to check its efficiency to tackle terrorist attack in the Model Burail Jail.
