Classic Call of Duty titles were among the UK’s best-selling games in July

Some classic Call of Duty games saw a big jump in sales in July after matchmaking issues with the titles on Xbox platforms were fixed.

2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the fourth best-selling game in the UK last month, one place ahead of 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The titles were also included in the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale, with the former available for £11.99 and the latter for £12.49.

While FIFA 23 was a more familiar chart entry at No.1, older titles also occupied the second and third spots, according to GSD sales data published on

Boosted by digital discounts on Xbox and PlayStation platforms, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 charted at No.2 and No.3 respectively.

The best-selling game that was actually released in 2023 was Hogwarts Legacy at No.6, while F1 23, Minecraft, 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 and Diablo 4 rounded off the top 10,

Switch exclusive Pikmin 4 was the month’s highest new entry at No.23. GSD’s data covers physical and digital game sales from most leading publishers, but Nintendo doesn’t provide digital data, meaning Pikmin 4 would likely have charted higher had this been available. Just considering boxed sales, it was July’s fifth best-selling game.

On the hardware front, PS5 was again the best-selling console last month.

Year-to-date, PS5 sales were up 68% compared with the first seven months of 2022, with Sony’s system accounting for almost half of all consoles sold this year in the UK.

Nintendo Switch sales were down 8.5% during the same period, while Xbox Series X/S sales were down 22.8%.
