Union Home Minister Amit Shah Sunday had his lunch at an Annakshetra (charity kitchen) he started in memory of his mother, Kusumben, in his hometown Mansa. Referring to the Annakshetra at a public event in Mansa, Shah said, “Here, an Annakshetra has been started in the memory of my mother. I pray to God that no one has to go to Annakshetra… Till then, we have to be concerned about ensuring that nobody sleeps hungry.”

He requested everyone to inform those who are deprived about the Annakshetra.

“I cannot correct the situation in the entire world, but we can make efforts that at least in Mansa nobody sleeps without having a meal. Today, I am going to dine with the poor people at the Annakshetra,” he added.

Taking on the BJP-ruled Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) different slogans such as ‘Clean City Green City’, ‘Zero-waste City, ‘Pollution-free City’ and ‘Dust-free City’ every year during its annual budget, the opposition Congress has come up with a counter-slogan of ‘bimar (ill) city and not smart city’.

Questioning the crores spent on the pre-monsoon plan, the Congress alleged that the “failed” plan of the BJP had resulted in waterlogging across the city and is now leaving residents ill with vector-borne and water-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, jaundice, cholera, typhoid and diarrhea, among others.
