In a move aimed at enhancing travel convenience, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have joined forces through a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaborative effort is set to introduce QR code-based ticketing for DMRC services via the IRCTC platform, as a part of the “One India-One Ticket Initiative.”
This alliance will allow passengers who use the IRCTC platform for online bookings, spanning railways, air travel, and buses, to seamlessly reserve DMRC QR code-based tickets. Syncing with the Indian Railways’ Advance Reservation Period, this integration enables travellers to effortlessly plan their entire journey at once. The DMRC QR code-based ticket will be seamlessly incorporated into the Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) of IRCTC, at a nominal platform fee of Rs 5/-. The move aims to streamline travel experiences, eradicating the need for long queues and saving commuters’ time.
Chairman & Managing Director of IRCTC, Seema Kumar, expressed the significance of this milestone partnership: “Through this collaboration with DMRC, we are dedicated to connecting different modes of transportation, ultimately delivering unprecedented advantages to passengers.”
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, affirmed, “This initiative not only promises a hassle-free experience for passengers but also aims to reduce congestion at DMRC stations by minimising reliance on physical ticketing.”
