Alan Wake 2’s release date has been pushed back to late October

Remedy Entertainment has delayed Alan Wake 2’s release date by 10 days.

Previously scheduled to launch on October 17, the game will now be released on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via the Epic Games Store.

“October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games,” Remedy said.

Ahead of a planned showing at Gamescom, it added: “We can’t wait to show you what everyone’s favorite novelist is up to in the Dark Place next week. Thanks for your patience!”

On Monday, Ubisoft brought forward the Assassin’s Creed Mirage release date by one week to October 5.

October’s release schedule also includes Detective Pikachu Returns (6th), Forza Motorsport (10th), Lords of the Fallen (13th), Super Mario Bros. Wonder (20th), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (20th), Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 (24th), Cities Skylines (24th), Alone in the Dark (25th) and Total War: Pharaoh (TBC).

Remedy announced in May that Alan Wake 2 would be a digital-only release. Explaining the decision, it said a large number of players have shifted away from buying physical games, and that not releasing a disc would help keep the title’s price at $59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99 on consoles and $49.99 / £39.99 / €49.99 on PC.

“Finally, we did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game — we do not think this would make for a great experience either,” it added.

In addition to the standard version of the game, a Deluxe Edition is available for $79.99 / £64.99 / €79.99 on consoles and $69.99 / £54.99 / €69.99 on PC.
