5 booked for assaulting forest dept personnel | Chandigarh News


Mullanpur police booked five persons who had allegedly assaulted the forest department’s staff in Jayanti Majri village on Sunday. The accused were not arrested yet and the raids were on to nab them.

The Forest Guard, Navdeep Kaur stated in her complaint that on the night of August 18, four members of her staff Ranjeet Singh, Mahinder Singh, Aman Singh and Karnail Singh were present at a naka near the forest area in Jayanti Majri village.  She further said that her staff found a tractor-trailer without any registration number passing from the road.

“My staff stopped the tractor and asked the driver to show the documents. It was also found that the trailer was loaded with sand and the driver failed to show any documents pertaining to the permission to transport the sand,” Navdeep alleged.

She added that when her staff refused the tractor driver to leave without proper verification, the driver along with four unidentified accomplices attacked the forest department personnel. The tractor driver was later identified as Raju while his accomplices were not identified yet.

Acting on the complaint police registered a case under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 294 (whoever to the annoyance of others: does any obscene act in any public place) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, and the relevant sections of the Mining Act.
