The ruling Trinamool Congress will table a motion to observe April 15 as the ‘Paschimbanga Dibas’ in the second half of the monsoon session of state legislative assembly which is slated to start from Tuesday.
The ruling party also plans to introduce a proposal for deciding a “state anthem” in the near future, TMC leaders said.
April 15 is the first day of ‘Poila Baisakh’, the Bengali New Year.
West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee on Monday said, “There is a national anthem for the country. The idea behind choosing a state anthem is to maintain the autonomy of West Bengal. Which artist will compose the anthem is still being discussed.”
According to sources, the party plans to form a committee to supervise the process of selection of a state anthem.
