Dediapada AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava turned heads as he marked his presence at an event marking the 74th birth anniversary of senior Congress leader late Ahmed Patel at his home town in Bharuch Monday.

Vasava was seated next to Ahmed Patel’s son Faisal Patel. In reference to the formation of INDIA, the national-level coalition of the Opposition parties, Vasava told media persons, “In the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, The Congress and the AAP will jointly contest elections.

Ahmed Patel’s daughter Mumtazben has shown interest in contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket from Bharuch. We will help her win the election and keep the BJP at bay. As per the coalition formula, if AAP gets the Bharuch seat, I will contest the election and Congress workers will work for us. If the coalition formula does not work, then AAP will put their candidates on all 26 seats (of Gujarat).”

‘Rare’ Gate

As some residents of Punagam area protested at the main gate of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Monday, Mayor Hemali Boghawala left the place hurriedly on a two-wheeler of her personal assistant from the small gate at the backside of the office as she had some “important work”.

The residents of Sahyog residential society, comprising 450 families, were on a sit-in protest with a demand to develop a drainage system in their society.

Notably, SMC has a single main gate for entry and exit of cars of officials and elected representatives. In addition, there is a small gate at the rear side that usually remains closed and opens only during emergencies.

“AAP councillors were inciting the mob outside the main gate of SMC. To avoid conflict between the protesting people, security staff and police, I chose (to leave through) the back gate of SMC,” Boghawala said.

Rakshasutra for PM

With Rakshabandhan approaching later this month and Narendra Modi’s 73rd birthday in September, the Mahila Morcho of the Gujarat BJP is planning to send more than 73,000 ‘rakhis’ or ‘rakshasutra’ to the Prime Minister for his well being and greetings wishing that the BJP wins more than 400 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under his leadership. President of the Morcha, Deepika Saradva, said the ‘rakhis’ will be made by their women workers from every district, city, taluka and municipalities. Apart from that, the Morcho will also celebrate a week of Rakshabandhan during which rakhis will be tied to soldiers serving on the border and police jawans, among others.
