A new song from Vishal’s upcoming film Mark Antony is out. Titled “I Love You Di”, the track is composed by GV Prakash, who earlier worked with the film’s director Adhik Ravichandran in his debut film, Trisha Illana Nayanthara. “I Love You Di”, written by Rokesh and Adhik, is the newest addition to the genre of ‘soup’ songs.
Usually, ‘soup’ songs focus on the male perspective of a broken relationship and most of the lyrics are about blaming the girl. Though such heartbreak songs have been around for a long time now, it was Anirudh and Dhanush who made it a thing by calling it ‘soup song’ in the viral song “Why This Kolaveri Di”. From then on, most films featured a track which is about the boy lamenting about the break-up. The song mostly has lines blaming the girl for his state of affairs. Mostly, set in bars or in the middle of the road, the song also involves the hero getting drunk and dancing to the track.
“I Love You Di” from Mark Antony fits almost all the criteria of a ‘soup’ song. Another interesting trivia about the song is that it is sung by Adhik himself. Vishal has also given his vocals to the track.
Mark Antony, also starring SJ Sruyah, Selvaraghavan, and Ritu Varma, is a sci-fi film about time travel. The movie is set to be released in theatres on September 15.
