Punjab University to vote on Sept 6 to elect student leaders | Chandigarh News

The much-awaited Panjab University (PU) will hold its campus students’ council elections on September 6. The counting and results of PU Campus Student Council (PUCSC) will be declared on the same day. The election schedule was announced on Saturday by Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) Jatinder Grover.

According to the schedule, the filing of nominations for the posts will be done from 9.30 am to 10.30 till August 31.

On August 31 at 10.35 am, scrutiny of candidates will be done and at 12 noon, a tentative candidates’ list will be displayed. From 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm, the filing of objections will take place. By 2.30 pm on the same day, the provisional list of candidates and objections if any would be sent to the office of DSW. On September 1 at 10 am, a list of approved candidates will be displayed.

The polling will begin at 9.30 am and will continue till 11 am on September 6. The ballot boxes will then be collected from the returning officers and will be brought to the Gymnasium hall by DSW staff and wardens. The counting of votes for the new office bearers would be begin 12 noon onwards at the Gymnasium hall. Also, the executive elections will take place on September 13.

Various parties have already started preparations for the students’ council elections in the Panjab University and its affiliated colleges. Security has also been beefed up around DAV College and other prominent institutes to prevent any sort of clash or brawl, and vehicles are also being checked to see if any sharp-edged weapons are carried.
The PU authorities had last month sent a proposal to the UT administration with a list of tentative dates for conducting the PUCSC elections following which the date to conduct the same was approved.

No outsiders allowed

Officials said that no outsiders would be allowed in the PU campus during this time till the elections are conducted peacefully. All the students have been asked to carry their ID cards as there would be stringent checking in the campus. Already, a meeting has been held between the PU authorities and Chandigarh police for preparations for
the elections with SP (City) Mridul and DSP (Central) Gurmukh Singh, Dean of Students Welfare (women) Simrit Kahlon marking their presence.

Police have been asked to step up vigilance to check whether outsiders are staying at hostels.
