All international airlines shift to Terminal 2 ahead of its operations from August 31 | Bangalore News

A total of 25 international airlines including Emirates, Qantas, British Airways, Qatar Airways have shifted base from Terminal 1 to the newly built Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. From August 31 midnight all the international flight operations will be handled from T2 spread across 2,55,000 sq m.

Meanwhile, domestic airlines including Air Asia, Air India, Star Air and Vistara have moved to T2. In addition Air India and IndiGo will also operate international flights from T2, while IndiGo is set to continue its domestic operations from T1.

Singapore Airlines SQ 508 will be the first international carrier to land at KIA’s T2. It is scheduled to depart from Changi International Airport at 8:50 am and land at KIA at 10:55 am.

An Emirates flight to Dubai was the last international flight that took off from T1 from Tuesday and Air India’s longest flight between San Francisco and Bengaluru will be that last international flight to land in the terminal.

T2 which is equipped to handle 25 million flyers annually, nine baggage screening zones, nine baggage claim belts. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has installed 17 pre-departure security check zones for passengers flying out after checking in luggage at 95 newly installed points.

Surrounded by different species of plants and trees, the T2 is dubbed as a ‘Terminal in the Garden’. The terminal consists of 180 rare and endangered species, over 3,600 plant species, 600-70-year-old trees, bamboo cladding stretching upto 923 km, 620 endemic plants, 7,700 transplanted trees, 96 lotus species and much more.
