Addressing a function in Kozhikode, Govindan said Chandrayaan-3 is an achievement. “We can be proud about it. The Prime Minister has named the landing point as Shiv Shakti. Now, BJP wants to make the Moon a Hindutva Rashtra. They already wanted to make India a Hindutva Rashtra and they are moving towards that. When science has registered its success, a section of BJP MPs and MLAs have ventured out to defame it.” he said.
Last week, PM Modi had announced that the Chandrayaan-3 lander’s touchdown point on the lunar surface would be named ‘Shiv Shakti’. The PM also said the crash site of the failed Chandrayaan -2 mission in 2019 would be called the Tiranga point.
ISRO chairman S Somanath had said there was no need for controversy regarding the naming of the Chandrayaan-3 landing site as it was part of a tradition to name all places related to experiments.
