The first glimpse of the fantasy horror drama Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer was unveiled by the makers on Thursday, which also happens to be its lead actor Jayasurya’s birthday. Helmed by Rojin Thomas, the film also stars Anushka Shetty in the lead role. The movie is based on the tales of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a Kerala priest who was believed to possess supernatural powers.
The two-minute-long ‘glimpse’ of Kathanar showcases Jayasurya as a prisoner of the church authorities as they believe he possesses some evil powers which will destroy their church. Meanwhile, the villagers seem to be suffering from a disease. The teaser has a spooky vibe as people with unusual faces appear on the screen. The background score adds to the eeriness of the teaser.

Towards the end, the makers also hint at the film, written by R Ramanand, releasing in two parts, one of which will be released in 2024. The film will be a pan-India release as it will be available in seven languages. As per reports, it is the first Indian film to use virtual production technology.

While sharing the first ‘glimpse’ of his film Kathanar on social media, director Rojin Thomas wished Jayasurya on his birthday and wrote, “Can you sense the haunting hum of a netherworld spell? While Rahul Subrahmanian Unni has composed the music of the fantasy drama, Jungjin Park has worked as the action choreographer. Cinematographer Neil D Cunha is also part of the film’s team. However, the makers have refrained from revealing the entire cast of the movie.
