GSRTC seeks govt nod to increase fleet size to 8,700 buses | Ahmedabad News

With passenger traffic increasing, the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) – an undertaking of the state government – has sent a proposal to the government to add around 700 buses to its existing fleet of 8,000-odd buses.

GSRTC at present has a fleet of 7,966 buses. But GSRTC Secretary Ravi Nirmal said that they have received a number of representations demanding launch of new bus routes and increasing frequency of buses on existing routes.

“We have received representations from elected representatives to launch new routes and increase frequency of buses. Therefore, we have sent a proposal to the state government this year to increase our fleet size to 8,700 buses,” Nirmal told The Indian Express.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of a new satellite bus station of GSRTC in Rajkot.

He added that the passenger traffic is increasing and therefore, the GSRTC needs more buses. “The overall passenger load factor is 75 per cent to 80 per cent. It goes up to 90 per cent in premium bus services. Keeping this in mind, we have sent the proposal to the government to increase our fleet size,” Nirmal said.
