First-time Karnataka Congress MLA Pradeep Eshwar Monday drew fire on social media platforms over his appearance as a contestant on the reality TV show Bigg Boss Kannada.
While Season 10 of the show will be telecast on Monday evening, the promo aired in the morning showed Eshwar entering the house to fanfare. It shows the Chikkaballapur MLA dancing to drum beats after entering the house, and saying that he was “happy to join as a contestant”.
The 38-year old, who runs a coaching institute, had delivered a shock defeat to former minister K Sudhakar in the last Assembly elections, and is known as an eccentric personality in political circles.
After the promo was aired, users reacted angrily on social media platforms, with several of them objecting to the participation of an elected representative on Bigg Boss Kannada.

Another user Abhishek hit out at the Congress MLA’s decision to participate in the show. “You pay taxes, they take home salary and allowances and even go to reality shows allegedly unconnected from the rest of the world. This isn’t how representation works,” he wrote.
Tweeting in Kannada, Manjunath wrote: “What is this sir? Rather than doing public service, entering Bigg Boss is comedic”. Another user asked whether people had elected him to participate in the show. “Is there no respect for the (MLA) post?” the user said.
K P Bachegowda, who contested as a JD(S) candidate against Eshwar, told The Indian Express “it was his personal issue”. “According to my information, he will leave the show (in a few days) after entering it. He is working in the constituency. Let us give him an opportunity. It is not right to comment about it now,” said Bechegowda.

According to sources at Colors Kannada channel, the show requires participants to sign an agreement to stay inside the house for 100 days without being in touch with the outside world. The programme team selected the contestants for the Bigg Boss house a few weeks ago and the participants were informed in advance.
On speculation that Pradeep Eshwar would just participate as a guest in the Bigg Boss house and leave, the sources said he could do so if he is voted out as participants have to sign a contract for the entire duration of the show.
