The trailer of Michael Mann’s upcoming film Ferrari, starring Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari, is out and it promises the thrill of watching a race where you know that cars are going to crash but you just can’t look away. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer of Ferrari gives a glimpse into the film which is set in the 1950s as Enzo is struggling to get his company back on track from the verge of bankruptcy.
The only thing that can save Ferrari is the Mille Miglia, a 1000 mile race across Italy that can put them back on the map. Enzo’s relationship with his wife, played by Penelope Cruz, that is on the rocks after the death of their son Dino, and his relationship with his mistress, played by Shailene Woodley, with whom he also shares a son, forms the emotional centre of the film. But amid all the stress, all Enzo wants is to save his company by making the fastest car he can.

In 2015, Ferrari was planned with Christian Bale playing the lead role but the film then got shelved. Although, Bale later played a race car driver in the Oscar nominated Ford Vs Ferrari. Despite the SAG-AFTRA strike, the cast and crew of Ferrari attended the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival a few months ago as it was backed by NEON, and not a major studio. At the time, Michael Mann said that him and Adam Driver reduced their salaries to make the movie.
Based on the book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine by Brock Yates, Ferrari has been written by Troy Kennedy Martin. The film also stars Patrick Dempsey, Jack O’Connell, Sarah Gadon and Gabriel Leone.
