Heirs of 50 erstwhile royal families to be felicitated on Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary | Ahmedabad News

Heirs of nearly 50 erstwhile royal families from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and other states are set to be felicitated by the Vishv Umiya Foundation, an umbrella organisation of Kadva Patidars, in Ahmedabad. Scheduled for October 31, the felicitation will be a part of ‘Sardar Patel Rashtra Chetna Mahasammelan’, Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary celebration event.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the event virtually in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, along with other ministers from the dignitaries list.

Nearly 10,000 ‘Chetna vehicles’ from across the state with more than 1 lakh persons will congregate ahead of the event inauguration.
Maharaja Raol Vijayrajsinhji Virbhadrasinhji Gohil, the heir of Krishna Kumarsinhji Bhavsinhji of Bhavnagar who was the first to surrender his state post-independence, Maharaj Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar from Maharana Pratap’s family in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Yuvraj Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati Maharaj, an heir to Kolhapur royal family as the 13th direct descendant of the Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and great-grandson of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu of Kolhapur who was the face of Maratha protest for reservation in 2011–19 are among those invited by the socio-economic foundation based in Ahmedabad.

“The same feeling of patriotism and nationalism is not seen among today’s youth. Nobody raises a voice against anti-nationals. During independence, we fought against the British but now fighting within the country against anti-nationals. We need to raise that consciousness among them first,” Vishv Umiya Foundation president R P Patel told The Indian Express.

Citing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the symbol of that consciousness, R R Patel added that people must be reminded of what Sardar did in
his life.

“The trust with which the royals surrendered their states was shattered by the Congress government. We took their Rajwade but did nothing for them. This is the reason we decided to felicitate them and when we shared the idea with them, some even got emotional,” he further said, adding that it is the respect for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which convinced all these princely states that the organisation aims to invoke in the society.

“Today when we go seeking donations, it is so difficult to convince them. Imagine what Sardar Patel could do for the country at that time. The message of meri mitti, mera desh, mera dharam (my soil, my country, my religion) should reach the masses,” he added.

Other royals who are said to have confirmed their presence are heirs from Rajasthan-Jodhpur, Sirohi, Banswada, Karoli, Jalamand, Ajmer, Jaisalmer, and Rohet Garh-Rewa from Madhya Pradesh, Jaspur in Chhatisgarh, Kalahandi and Jagannathpuri in Odisha and nearly 30 from Gujarat.
