Vicky Kaushal recalls Indian army officers ‘scaring’ him during Sam Bahadur shoot; jokes about Katrina Kaif giving him ‘pep talk before every shot’ | Bollywood News

The trailer of Meghna Gulzar’s next film, Sam Bahadur was released on Tuesday and it received all the love and appreciation of the movie buffs. The film is based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, played by actor Vicky Kaushal. During the trailer launch event of the film, Kaushal opened up about the film’s team paying attention to every minute detail about the late military officer’s life. He also shared that during the shoot of the film, he met the officers of the Indian Army, who were happy about him doing the film, but ‘scared’ him in equal measure by reminding him how important Sam Manekshaw is for them.

At the event, the actor said, “Mere liye sabse badi validation hoti hai when the army approves of my film and my performance when I wear my uniform. We have given it our all. With every minute detail, whether it’s a ribbon or a medal, I don’t think there’s any mistake at all. I used to meet the Indian Army and they were very encouraging and used to say that we are so happy that you’re doing this film. End main phir dara dete the, ‘Theek se karna, (Make sure you do it well), you’re playing our best man.’”

Kaushal donned the uniform of the Indian army in his superhit 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike. The film was a stepping stone in his career. As he wore the military uniform once again for Sam Bahadur, the actor felt the responsibility of playing his role with utmost ‘sincerity’. For him, it was his “toughest” role. PTI reported him as saying, “This is the toughest role I have played till now. Not just how he talks and how he walks but because of the kind of man he was a lot of effort was needed. And I must say, how I looked in the film, it’s truly a team effort and massive research work done by Meghna.”

To get completely into the skin of his character, Vicky Kaushal did a lot of research around Sam Manekshaw along with the film’s director Meghna Gulzar. They read thoroughly about his life and watched his several videos. “It was a lot of hard work that was needed when having to bring such a character on-screen. No Sundays, no off days. There was a constant prep. We met his family members and they were really helpful. I have around 200 pictures of him in my phone to capture every aspect of his life,” PTI quoted him as saying.

During the interaction, when someone asked Kaushal if his actor-wife Katrina Kaif helped him in the preparation for the role, the actor had a witty response. He said, “Ek magic recipe hai jo maine bataya nahi hai abhi tak. Har shot se pehle main phone karta tha aur voh mujhe pep talk deti thi aur phir main voh shot pe jaata tha. Nahi aisa kuch nahi hota tha (I have a secret magic recipe. I would call her for a pep talk before every shot. No, this would not happen).”

Festive offer

Sam Bahadur, scheduled to hit the theatres on December 1, also stars Sanya Malhotra as Silloo Manekshaw, Sam’s wife, and Fatima Sana Shaikh as the former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi.
