A day after Independent MLA Ravi Rana claimed that Ajit Pawar had succeeded in convincing Sharad Pawar to back the BJP, senior Pawar’s daughter and Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Sunday ridiculed the claim.
She added, “Why do you entertain such people? It’s all false … It’s Diwali time and let us enjoy our Diwali.”
Alluding to the meeting between Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar, Rana, who supports the BJP, had claimed he had predicted “a blast in the political field” during Diwali.
“Things are happening as I predicted. Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar met in Pune…Ajit Pawar has 99 per cent succeeded in convincing Sharad Pawar about joining hands with BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he had said.
Sule said Sharad Pawar, who fell ill while attending an event in Baramati on Saturday, is at home and taking a rest. “We are all at home and in a Diwali mood,” she said.
Sule said they had gathered in Pune for a family get-together. “We were in Pune at Prataprao’s residence for a family lunch..,” she added, referring to senior Pawar’s younger brother Prataprao Pawar.
Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut also dismissed Rana’s claim. “Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar meeting is nothing new. They keep meeting when all the family members gather together. Diwali is a special occasion when all Pawars meet in Baramati,” said Raut.
Sharad Pawar, said Raut, will never entertain any talks of joining hands with the BJP. “I don’t think such a discussion would have taken place at all…I am 100 per cent confident that Sharad Pawar will never go to the BJP,” he added.
Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe said, “If Pawar had to join hands with the BJP, he would have done it a long time ago. Now, there is no question of him doing that. The Congress is fully confident that Pawar will remain with the INDIA bloc”.
